This is going to be a fun filled and exciting school year. There is so much to learn and our goal is to make it as fun and enjoyable as possible. As you know by now you have two teachers, so you will switch classes. It is important that you listen, pay attention and stay very organized. Please know that we are here to help you, so ask questions.
In reading, our goal is to become fluent readers and writers, so to strengthen your skills, be ready to read and write daily.
In math, you will continue to build your understanding of number sense, math facts, problem solving through mathematical practice, comparing fractions, elapsed time, multiplication, and division.
My name is Tina Polvi, and I am proud to be a Georgia peach. While I have lived in other parts of the world, Georgia will always be my home. I am married with two children who are grown.
I graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Troy State University with a Master’s degree in Post-Secondary Education, and Columbus State University with an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership. Joining the Moreland Road family is very exciting for me as I embark on my eighteenth year in teaching.
My name is Mrs. Ponder. I want to tell you a little bit about me. First, I enjoy teaching and watching young people learn and grow. My favorite subject is reading and writing of course. I usually spend my free time reading or writing in one of my many journals. I also enjoy trying new coffees and teas and shopping with my little girl and spending time with my husband.
I began my teaching career over ten years ago in Kissimmee Florida. I joined the Griffin-Spalding County School System in 2017, and I am very excited to be a part of the Moreland Road family.
I was born in Decatur, Georgia and have lived in many fun places like Florida and Tennessee. I graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have a Master’s Degree in Educational Theories and Practices.
I live in Barnesville with my husband John and our sweet puppy Scout.
My name is Tonya Shirey. I began my career in education in Griffin-Spalding County School System 2012. I worked in private school for 3 years and I am back serving in public school at Moreland Elementary. I was born and raised in Griffin, Georgia. I graduated from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. I received my teaching certificate through Griffin RESA as part of the TAPP Program. I am certified in Special Education K-12 and General Education K-5.
I am also a Licensed Counselor and work part-time at Touch of Healing Counseling Center in Griffin. I live in Griffin, Georgia with my amazing husband, Jay, our daughter Emree, and our fur babies Ellie and Petey.
