**Important Information for Parents: When to Return to School After Illness**
At Moreland Road Elementary, we are committed to ensuring the health and safety of all students. To help reduce the spread of illness and protect the well-being of our school community, please follow these guidelines when deciding whether your child is ready to return to school after being sick. ---
**When should your child stay home?**
- **Fever:** Keep your child home if they have a fever of 100°F (37.8°C) or higher. They should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication before returning to school.
- **Vomiting or Diarrhea:** Keep your child home for at least 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.
- **Contagious Illnesses:** If your child has a contagious illness such as strep throat, chickenpox, or the flu, they should stay home until cleared by a doctor or until the infection is no longer contagious (check with your healthcare provider for specific guidance).
- **Coughing or Respiratory Issues:** If your child has a persistent cough or significant respiratory issues, they should stay home until these symptoms improve.
**When can your child return to school?**
- **After 24 hours fever-free (without fever-reducing medication).
- **After being symptom-free for 24 hours (such as no vomiting or diarrhea).
- **When a doctor clears your child to return, especially for conditions like strep throat, pink eye, or other contagious infections.
**Other Important Notes:**
- **Keep your child hydrated and well-rested before returning to school to ensure they are fully recovered.
- **Call the school nurse if you are unsure whether your child is ready to return, or if you have questions about specific illnesses.
- **Notify the school if your child has been diagnosed with a contagious illness to help protect other students and staff.
--- **We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a healthy school environment!
